Black logon screen on hibernate only, "resolved" by unplugging monitor?
After running Windows 7 RC since June I have encountered a problem over the last week which I am unable to resolve. If I boot the machine from Hibernate mode the logon screen appears black. The monitor is receiving signal, but it is not displaying anything. If I unplug the monitor from the back of the computer and plug it back in then Windows 7 makes its installing new hardware sound and the logon screen appears. I do not experience this black screen when using Sleep mode or a standard Shutdown, only Hibernate. I have only recently experienced this problem and can only assume it was caused by a recent Windows 7 update, as I have not installed any new hardware etc. I am running an Intel Core 2 duo and Nvidia 8600GTS on a 17" Illyama LCD monitor. It is a single monitor setup. I have tried installing the latest Nvidia drivers and this has not affected the situation. Does anyone have any idea what has broken hibernate mode on my PC?

HiIn the original Beta and then continuing in the RC version there werebugs inthe Power Configuration components, including, sleep, standby and hibernate. The typical behavior was what you are experiencing. When resuming, one or more components would fail to reinitialize. This could be resolved by either disconnecting/reconnecting the component or rebooting the system. Most of these bugs have been fixed in the RTM build, although some random instances have still been reported. What makes these particular bugs difficult to track downis their random nature and the fact that there never were any definitive fixes found. Some users were able to fix the problem by updatingvarious drivers for hardware components on the system. Some other users simply stopped using the power options to resolve the problem. Here is a link to a search for the threads on these issues. You might be able to identify some hardware setups in one or more of the threads that is similar to yours.Sleep/Hibernate Issues - Microsoft TechNet Forums SearchHope this helps.Thank You for using Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Thus, I suggest you install Win 7 RTM. It should be more stable than RC. Besides, since the issue occurs recently, you should try a system restore. Refer to the link below to perform a system restore: Using System Restore in Windows 7 Regards. Cecilia Zhou
